Who is Shirdi Sai Baba?

If you go to Mumbai (India), you can see, in many places, the picture of a Saint sitting like a royal king, with His right leg folded on His left and unmindful of the tear of His shirt on the right arm, on a stone. Shirdi Sai Baba is a household name now for most people in India, not only in the State of Maharashtra but almost in all States.

Whom to Pray and What to Pray?

Right from childhood we have been trained how to pray to God Who is, we have been told, residing up there in the spiritual sky. We have been guided to beg Him what we want in our life. Of course we know the success rate of such prayers. Yet we didn’t have many choices, and so we continue to pray this way, and we teach our kids what we have been taught by our parents. It’s time for us to wake up and learn and guide our kids whom to pray and what to pray.

What Surrender is Not

A lady had been suffering from a serious physical ailment for a few years. Inspired by some article on prayer, she started praying. It went on for a month or two. Then she wrote to me, ‘I am not going to pray any longer, rather I’d submit to the Will of God and endure this pain until the disease is cured.’ I was surprised by her definition of Surrender implicit in her statement. She tried to get her disease cured by means of prayer. Apparently she failed in her attempt, and she decided to give up. Is it submission of her will to the Will of Lord? If she doesn’t want to "surrender", what other options she had? If this is Surrender, then what was she doing before she started praying? She "surrendered" for a few years, then she prayed for a month or two, and then she "surrenders" again - until she decides not to.

Blessed by Baba

It was the spring of 2004. I had gone on a personal visit to Chennai (India). After finishing my personal work I went to the Mylapore temple of Shirdi Sri Sai Baba. I had visited that temple a couple of times earlier.

After worshiping the main deity, I was just strolling around the temple. Then I was casually reading the inscription in a pillar that listed the popular eleven promises of Baba. I knew it already but I was just passing time casually reading it.

Suddenly I heard a voice behind me: "You want this?" I turned around to face a six and a half feet tall well-built man standing near me. I was too startled by the encounter of this rather strange visitor to answer him. But without expecting a reply he thrust a 3"x2" card into my right palm. Lowering my eyes I saw the card in my hand which had those eleven promises printed on its face. I felt I didn't need it. But when I raised my eyes, he had already disappeared in the crowd of devotees.

I wondered why Baba gave it to me through somebody or perhaps He Himself came to do the job. After all I believed in Him and I didn't require any promise of that sort. In fact throughout the previous year I was doing an extensive research in the doctrine of Surrender. I was spending much of my spare time in exploring the works of Sri Ramanuja and His disciples who lived in Srirangam (Trichy, India) for about five centuries. I was yet to get a satisfactory explanation and so my quest continued through 2004.

Therefore, the gift I expected from Baba at that time was to expound the theory and practice of the doctrine of Surrender. And then I flipped the card that was thrust into my palm a few minutes before. I was thrilled to see the picture of the pair of holy Feet of Baba (the one you see here above).

When I came back to Trichy from Chennai I felt I was blessed by Baba. My spiritual progress went at a break-neck speed since then.

In a decade Baba inspired and guided me to get spiritually enlightened.

* It is My special characteristic that I always look to and provide for the welfare of My devotees.

* Be wherever you like, do whatever you choose, but remember that all what you do is known to me.
